anyone know much or do anything with computer science/software development/coding etc? i am terribly bored working on a painful project evaluating the nature of the racket programming language. usually i code in java, so this lower level language is quite painful. i've also coded in C#, ASP.Net, SQL, and some other that i probably am forgetting.

does anyone do any coding with their current jobs/have ever in the past? im bored, and willing to bet most of the people on here are bored because everyone always bitches lol.

probably boring to most people but its my major so i wanna hear what yall have to say

it used to be my major. dont know of that language though...programming caused me to drop out of college actually. If Devon (stompjrkz) sees this I can nearly be willing to bet he will chime in.

PS i fucking hate programming....assembly language was the one that broke me. fucking nearly impossible for me to maintain patience with it.....

i don't code, but i do work very closely with programmers all day on websites. my job is to basically be the middle man between designers and programmers to make sure the website looks and works as proposed, and then i use content management systems within each to populate, maintain, etc.

Also, job market wise, network programming is BIG right now, get your basic low level lanauges down, The new health bill requires all hospital and clinics to be networked for insurance, so there are going to be alot of jobs there, also make sure u take some kind of database, learn sql if possible, very hot indusrty right now

I was thinking about picking up coding, but my god, does it look fucking boring.

Most programmin is boring, but think of the small systems and programs for guided missles, using fuzzy logic, low level programming can be a beast though, it just a matter of doing something u enjoy i guess

there is plenty of opportunity, do you have a job lined up yet? i have been browsing just to get an idea of what i will do next year and what not. im a junior now. i have most of those languages that you mentioned, some only a bit of. and now i am working heavily on the low level with racket. assembly is a bitch. next i am going to be working on a project with Ada. ever worked with that one? i picked it because it is military and i thought that would be interesting to see what it's capable of in that arena.

I am moving to North Carolina this summer, I'm searching for jobs right now and COBOL programmers is one of the most demanding Jobs down that way. There seems to be tons of jobs, Just no entry-level jobs

I'm applying for technical writing, a computer administrator job, And a C program tester

that's cool. if you get into COBOL that would probably be good i imagine. it's not like that language will get wiped out for a long time by its nature. im trying to stay in CT. danbury has a some good places.

that's a tough question to answer. it depends on what exactly within the field you will be working with. the most important thing though that you get taught in school is to learn how to teach yourself. technology is always changing and there are so many coding styles and languages out there you have to be able to learn them on your own. so, if you can learn things well from google then you have a good shot at learning to code in some way. bill gates never got his degree in CS he just taught himself out of a garage.
