  • ATTN: Phil and firearm enthusiasts

I have been looking for the past few days (like everyone else) for a reliable AR15. I have seen lowers (I am very interesting in building if it is recommended) them on the 'net for around 50 bucks and I was wondering if this is something I should "pull the trigger" for.

Also, is buying a lower and building up the better way to go? I am looking mostly for reliability here. I'd like to put my order in tomorrow as the prices of these lowers went up 10 bucks already just this weekend.

I understand I can get one of those S&W jobs for around 650 but I was wondering what my options are here. How much more am I going to need to invest (before optics and fancy fore grips) in order to have an operable firearm?

Buy a complete rifle, it's cheaper than building one these days.

What if I already ordered a lower? Or say.. 5?

A link to a reputable online retailer would be great! I'll check the forums, I might actually have a username over there at ar15.com now that I think about it..

Just make sure when you order complete uppers online that they need to be made CT compliant. Seeing as how you paid $50 for them, I already know they aren't prebans, so the stock needs to get pinned, a comp needs to get pinned to the end of the barrel and the bayonet lug has to get cut off.

I wish I was fortunate enough to have ordered pre-bans, however what I have coming in are post bans. I think a complete upper is the most cost effective way to build these, however I'm learning a lot through this Brownells website, along with the AR15 forum.

I believe I have the now have the resources I need to educate myself and order what I want. I think each rifle will be built a little differently because 5 of the same thing will probably get boring.

                        5 ARs gets boring.

I used to have 4, I'm down to 1 because I never shot the others.

I don't personally need 5, there are more people in my family interested in these than just me lol, I can't imagine one person needing 5 of the same firearm (unless its a 1911 )
