    proof it is off roaders?

Lamentation was shut down due to dumping by contractors/other such people, not people trail riding.

my point is the logic is wildly flawed, and everyone has seemed to just accept it

It is a vicious circle. You are absolutely right.
I believe the land was the towns. They came in and bulldozed it down.

the fallacy in the whole thing is:

        take us for example

if the state of CT came to me tomorrow and said
"Guyz...if you want to wheel in Naugatuck State Forest, you are free to do so on existing trails, however, you must have 6 clean ups a year to keep the place clean"

We would do it, and we would get 15 other clubs to do it with us. And the place would be immaculate.

Instead, everyone is just banned outright, and the party goers, trash dumpers, and so on, go unchecked. the government sure as shit isnt going to go in there and clean anything up.

so the land just sits idly, doing nothing for anyone but sitting there, while trash is added.

no not offroaders. i don't think they are specifically trying to punish us but people as a whole. it's much harder trying to control bad people/contractors/offroaders/zombie hoards and let offroaders have the land than to just shut it down entirely to keep bad things from happening to the land

            let the people police themselves

does better than no policing at all

illegal wheeling runs rampant in the state. give the people somewhere to ride and that wouldnt be the case.

i know everyone agrees with me, just a sore topic for me.

completely true yet it's a back burner for the government. they don't care about the issue and worry about everything else so nothing ever comes from it. as you say the land sits idle cause the people with the power don't care about it

thats why its so frustrating. excuse my tommy jeffism but for all the freedom we experience in this country, it is a wonder that our very own land we pay for is not available for us to use just because someone said "no" and doesnt have a reasonable reason.

I think they only way to really make it work is to have it as a park and require a permit or have a charge to use the land. Im thinking permit because no one would have to man the property but vehicles could be checked periodically. The funds could be used to maintain it. They could also have liability waivers as a requirement while getting a permit.

Yeah in a perfect world this would work. But guess what? No one stays on existing trails. Nepaug SF is a perfect example. The place is destroyed by offroad traffic. Can't even complete road construction projects up there without it getting wrecked over a weekend.

So yeah sitting here talking about it on the internet it seems like a stupid thing with an obvious solution. And, that there's no reason that it couldn't happen. But in the real world, it just flat out won't work. No matter how hard you try people will get in there make more trails through sensitive areas and continue to trash the place.

And I take it you don't spend a lot of time out in Naugatuck State Forest or you'd know that it doesn't "sit idly". There are currently several timber harvest operations going on out there to both improve forest health and bring in revenue for the state.

this is exactly how they handle anthracite land in NE PA. the methods have been tested, they work, and they exist elsewhere. i refuse to accept that there is no solution whatsoever. but then again im stubborn

Also as long as everyone is doing it illegally they dont have the same liability. Imagine they give you permission to go on to specific property and someone gets seriously injured or killed. All of the sudden its the towns fault for providing the land used to injure/kill someone and gets sued.
It does suck, and I would love to see legal wheeling close to home, but I know its not going to happen any time soon, if ever.

Your post is all fine and dandy, but it doesnt bring any value. Mainly because anything you just typed is a direct result of the state making it illegal to off road. Dirt roads in Nepaug is not legal off roading.

Several timber harvests, thats swell. How much % of the land is that taking up?

Its legal to do any number of "human powered" activities. The lack of support for powersports is bred from pure ignorance, nothing more, nothing less.
