      QFT.

      simple
      strong
      easy to mount skids to.

Ive built a couple diffrent crossmembers
tried to improve upon the drop out clayton design to fit more of my style and when finished it was like a clayton x-member....
still have it laying around unfinished .... and it took way more work than just buying the simple one from clayton.

in reality claytons setup is about as good as it gets if you want a drop out section. in order to have clearance for everything and to be strong with a stock drive train that isnt tucked up.

I really don't think u can make any improvements on the Clayton x member. It's simple to the point and gets the job done.

            so make a skid
Get the clayton 4 link kit for the rear, then you get an awesome skid .

Seriously though, to make a nice flat x-member with a removeable center you need to plate the frame inside and out to do it right. then weld legs inside with flanges. Even with a flat x-member the t-case hangs below the step in the frame. So you would have to clock the t-case too.

and i dont really want to clock the case. i dont have the skills or tools to do that hah.
i dont mind having a bulge for the tcase. maybe ill do some picture art. to get an idea

So talk to Adam or Clayton and order the rear control arm crossmember without any link mounts on it. Bam, belly skid fits, Problem solved.

It would be cheaper but you know the clayton kit would be bolt in. I would see how much you could get it for. If its crazy than make it. If not it may be worth it.

Making the rear xmember you could do on your own if you really felt like doing so, but why really? You know the production one fits, you know the belly skid fits... IMO that alone is worth paying for it
