BETHEL -- The former wife of a Bethel man who fathered a child as a result of an allegedly incestuous relationship with their daughter told The News-Times on Thursday that she tried to alert authorities that a crime was being committed more than five years ago, but said her pleas for help were largely ignored.
Vikki McConvey said she called Bethel police in January 2007 because she suspected there was more to daughter Tiffany Hartford's relationship with George L. Sayers Jr. than they let on.
But McConvey said she was told nothing could be done, because at age 18 Hartford was no longer a minor.
McConvey also said the Department of Children and Families investigated her claims, but found no evidence of a sexual relationship.
Sayers, 46, and Hartford, now 23, were arrested by Bethel police Monday after DNA tests confirmed that not only were they father and daughter, they were also the parents of a child.
