That being said, the electoral college gives small states like Rhode Island and even Connecticut a voice that actually matters in the grand scheme... it's a necessary, if outdated, system.

Look at PA. That state is the most republican state in the north east. The reason that state was lost is because of Philly. There are like 8 people who live in "coal country". The vote came from the people in philly. I love how a black man will vote for Obama no matter what. I love how a rich New Yorker will vote for OBama no matter what. If the popular vote determined the election, no one would give a fuck about the Northeast pretty much as a whole (excluding New York) because of the small populations. No one would give a shit if something needed to happen up here. We'd lose our political voice.
