I just found out a 2012 Toyota Camry does not have enough ground clearance to drive over an alligator without smacking his head on the undercarriage.

I'm guessing at 4am, there probably was no oncoming traffic preventing you from swerving into the other lane to avoid it. But running over an alligator in a rental car is sort of a once in a lifetime thing you don't pass up...
