Does Anyone Know Anything About Motorcycles?

I just picked this up for 100$. Was told the engine was blown. Bike has 11,000 miles on it.

I know nothing about it. Not even the year. I just figured i could probably flip it for more than 100$, so it was a good buy in my opinion.

I guess what i'm asking for is any information on this bike, and an estimate on how much you'd assume it would cost to fix it (assuming that the engine was the only thing wrong.)

Looks like 94 ish and it's an FZR600, you could puckup a good runing engine from a salvage yard for not that much and sell it for around 2g's or less provided you have the rest of the fairings.

I think i was actually going to keep it, as it would save me tons of money on gas as apposed to driving the jeep everywhere. It's also a totally different experience riding a motorcycle.

I didn't think a salvage yard would have a running engine for this bike laying around. You don't think it would be cost effective to have someone rebuild this one?

I'm motorcycle illiterate. Could you please explain to me what you mean by "you have the rest of the fairings"? Am i missing something on the bike? What is the fairing? I know it's Friday night, but school is in session for me.

on the neck of the frame (where the forks mount to the frame and pivot, one side or another will have either a sticker or a riveted on tag and will tell you everything about the bike. model year etc. also that looks to be a mid 90s FZR600 my buddy worked on a couple over the years and had a YZF600 for a short time .... im sure he can help out...paging MacGyver.

I think that makes this a 1996? I'm not sure if it mentions if it's a 600 or a 400 though.

there ya go. fairly easy to find parts for id bet. aluminium frame and whatnot so i bet it handles real nice same year as my bike too id say if it dont cost a whole lot to get a new motor for it ride it and have fun for a bit.

That's what i was thinking. I just know nothing about bikes and would be in over my head so fast. Would save me tons on gas though.

I might get this one rebuilt if it's cheaper than getting a salvage one.

The side of the engine or whatever you call it looks scratched up. I'd assume the bike was crashed. Not sure if that led to the problem it has, but it probably didn't help.

thats your stator cover. been laid down more than once id bet also probably why the fairings are missing, might have been destroyed in a sliding accident lol. mine were multiple times however i cant say as to weather it caused the problem it has now or not...gonna lean to probably not. but i dont know much about what goes wrong or how it goes wrong. mine (the orange one pictured above) has almost 42,000 miles on it and still runs...not sure what to tell ya as far as where to go now....i was extremely fortunate to have a few very willing and able motorcycle guys show me the ropes with stuff but someone walking in the dark could get really in over their head, fast too.

Going to try to get multiple opinions so i don't end up way over my head. Once i get the key to it tomorrow, i can actually start making videos of exactly what it's doing and maybe someone can help me troubleshoot it.

Maybe it's a simple fix. Who knows.

yup, thats the idea there. and fyi its not so much that someone may have thought they were evil knievel (although with a sportbike thats more than likely what happened)...with motorcycles its a not a matter of IF you hit the ground its WHEN you hit the ground...some riders get it out of the way quick and REALLY fuck up (me) and some go years and never even drop a bike. if someone who rides ever tells you they never dropped a bike either they dont ride much or theyre a liar

but yeah see what ya can get out of it, might just be better in the end to try and turn a quick buck as a parts bike. its gotta be worth more than $100 as a parts bike, more if it has a title.
