  • What Parts Should I Take From A 97 ZJ?

Posting this for my brother. Long story short, he sold me his XJ, wanted to buy a car, realized he didn't like cars, and is now in the hunt for another XJ to build.

He's currently working together a list of the modifications he wants so he can "do it right this time". He's going to buy it all at once, and put it all together at once.

He has a friend with a 97 ZJ who is parting the thing out. I only have to the end of the night to pull shit off it then it goes to the scrapper. Brother gets first dibs, so i'm trying to figure out what i should take from the thing that would be beneficial to either me or him for swapping into our XJs or reselling for more.

    So far my brother is taking the;
    - Rear Axle so he can swap to discs. (The kid only wants 50$ for it, what a steal.)
    - Front Leather Seats & Mounting Brackets.

    Anything else you would take?

I've never removed a driveshaft before. Can you give me a quick 101 on how to remove it? I plan on just sawzalling the entire rear axle out, but i do have a socket set with my that goes up to like 3/4".

Where is the fan clutch located and how do i get it off? Rear bench sounds easy enough and so do the hatch struts. Those are the things that hold the rear hatch open, correct?

Driveshafts need an 8mm or 5/16 socket. Put them on a 1/4" drive, usually a 3/8 won't fit.

The fan clutch is the thing the fan is bolted to. It's an improvement to the XJ clutch. Undo the 4 nuts holding it to the pulley, then undo the 4 bolts holding the fan to the clutch. Don't tip it on its front though.

              Update.

Pulled out the entire rear axle. Got it stripped down last night and just kept the backing plates, the calipers, and the rotors, and put everything else outside.

I also got the seats out of it. They're not leather, but they're power.

I also got the rear hatch shocks. They're too short for my XJ, does anyone know how much they're worth?

Didn't get the fan clutch, and it didn't have a stock gas tank skid. Front Driveshaft was already gone.

                Struts aren't worth much.

There's writeups somewhere out there about how to use hatch struts as hood props... could think about that.

Interesting. That actually sounds like something that could be useful.

I think i'll find that thread and use them for that.

                  Will report back.
