        dont we all

I got a doe opening day but I bow hunt. Pete got one a few weeks later. Just trying to get a buck close enough now. I have passed up a few small bucks so far and numerous does. The closest I got was about 50 yards to a huge 8 point. wish I had your 30-30

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

Holey crab do you live on a deer farm.

                    I shot a doe 2 weeks ago.
I wish I had more time to hunt.

I wish these deer didnt go nocturnal once it started with the lower temps!

I seriously take a lot of time with hunting. I pattern them, set up feeding areas early, and set up my stands (a few between me and my brother) accordingly. Once you slack, they find the next biggest corn pile. If you are lucky enough to get a private piece of property to hunt on, dont slack on it. Feeding deer early with the right stuff can make the difference between a normal 8 point and a beast 12 point. It is all in their diet. Also, I have accused myself for this all the time, but not favoring one stand is critical. Make a few and rotate. Trail cams can be your best friend here. find their normal trails (if possible) and set up stands a little off the trail. The deer get that big because they are smart. Even if you dont see them, they may wind you from 100 yds away before you even get a glimpse of them. They are out at night, and you may not see them for weeks.

And just because they are on cam doesnt mean they are going to be there everytime you go out. I cant tell you how many huge deer I have seen early season and pre season and than a week into the season they are gone. I wont see them again until late oct-early nov when the rut comes around. This is when you have to be persistent and keep patterning them. During the rut, spend the whole day in the stand. Stay with it, and you will get a shot. Unfortunately, like in my case, when you only have a few acres to work with and a bow only, its tough to get a chance no matter what. But thats bow hunting and thats why I wouldnt give it up for anything.

                        You've got that right.
I just don't have the time to hunt never mind scout.
Hunting takes a lot of time.
And this is the first year I got private property but it is in Oxford so no baiting.
I set my stand up a few weeks early. I've been hunting for years and only shot 3 deer seen more but usually pass on doe or small bucks. I've only got two 4 pointers and a doe.
I see more deer in the first couple weeks and then nothing. Like you said.
And with a bow they have to be pretty dam close.

This year I took the first deer that came into range I wanted some meat. I still have 3 bow tags and 2 gun tags.
I watched 3 doe and a small buck for 3 hours before one came into range.
If I had a gun I could have taken one in the first 5 min.

Keep us updated with what you get.

O wait one correction i have to make, i hunt for meat, ive hunted 3 times in 8 years and the only deer i shot i was not able to track ( lost light/ was not prepared). My problem is i never apply intime to a doe licences, and ive never seen a buck hunting, hopefully this year will be the one,

One good thing this year is the land i have to hunt on is about 7 acres and has field corn in the center of it
