Zullo and I discussed this today at work.

The lawyer's in the right and shouldn't have been arrested, and this wouldn't have been such an issue if not for the Aurora incident. That being said, the theater WAS a private establishment, and the owners can request someone to leave if they want...

      It's a mess. And DeStefano's a crooked douchebag.

I still stand by my thoughts that because of his actions, he got what he deserved. Poor choices on his part, and anyone in law enforcment will agree.

As for that other post, i meant in regards to open carry. Thats a whole other issue where i could see this going into multiple pages of responces on its own, let alone in regards to this new haven Incident.

        And yes, its a clusterfck

whether he did nothing wrong or not.

It's the job of the police to mantain peace among the public. Clearly, in the wake of recent events, carrying a gun into a theater isn't the best idea. Had he been cooperative, they probably would have just made him leave the theater to calm the nerves of the people inside the theater.

The police aren't the justice department, they have to make real life decisions in real time in order to protect the people in the theater and not just the rights of some dude treating them with disrespect.

Granted, i don't care who you are, this was a shitty ass way for a lawyer to make a point.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Where are all the Tommy Jeffisms? The call to protect individual rights in the face of tyranny? The belief that the state has lost touch with its people?

What happened to the belief that guns are necessary in order to protect yourself against evildoers because the police can't be counted on to be there in your hour of need?

This dude did nothing wrong in my eyes. With all the shit going on in the news you bet your ass I'd carry if I was going to go see that movie. AND this dude had to walk home at 1am in New Haven which should necessitate a full arsenal itself.

Don't believe everything to the story, cops arent saints and can twist the truth to fit their actions like everyone else.

I figured this forum would be against the idea that you need to give up certain rights just in order to preserve the mental calmness of the dolts in the herd.

Also, the state doesn't specify whether your permit is open or concealed carry only, they simply recommend you cover your firearm as much as possible.

                HEREHERE! and TALLYHO!

He stood up for his rights and didn't back down when it would have been easier.

One letter to the NRA and they'll have a cadre of their best lawyers and spokespeople out here to back this guy.

His choice to carry wasn't insensitive, rather born of practicality and a realistic understanding of his environment.

                  Excellent post.

The cops didn't need to go in with their own guns drawn, simple fact, but the citizens of Connecticut have become such sheeple that even the mere sight of a firearm induces drastic and unrational fears and subsequent overreactions.

The police were responding to a gun call. They have to respond prepared for a worst case scenario. They cant go in the theater and politely ask, "hey are their any killers in here with loaded weapons? if so please raise your hand and walk out". They need to find the issue at hand quickly, and then deal with it. They did so in an aggressive enough manner to get the job done, without going overboard and slamming everyone into the ground, and harming anyone in the act. In this case it wasnt a psycho which is great. But the simple fact is the man was arrested for his actions when asked by police, multiple times, to simply comply to some simple demands, which were not against his constitutional rights as a US citizen. If he simply followed those simple requests, he would not have been arrested for breach and interfering. it is a huge red flag to officers, when someone with a gun does not comply....that is a situation that could become deadly at any point, and is not seen as normal actions by a law abiding citizen, or an individual in the right frame of mind.

That arrest wasnt made because he wished to exercise his right to carry with his legal permit....it was made because police were called to respond to a man with a gun in a movie theater, and upon their arrival, were faced with an uncooperative man with a gun, which is what we call a situation. Police have families, and they are going to act in a manner to insure they go home at night, as well as the other people in the cinemas. Yes it ended up being a citizen who had a clean record etc.....but the fact of the matter is he resisted, and disrespected the police, so he got what he deserved. That has noting to do with his right to carry, he interfered with the police, and got burned.

This 100% could have been avoided, and would have never even made the news, if he simply cooperated. He would have never been arrested. (Even if he carried into the theaters) thats not the point. But thats what the media is grabbing a hold of. They are forgetting he was a dick, and uncooperative, in a situation which could have gone bad. But now that he wasnt a killer, or a psycho, and he got charged, the citizens are in an uproar......as usual.

And if this who situation happens again, and police dont respond in the same manner, and their ends up being a shooting, citizens will be in an uproar that police didnt respond in an aggressive enough manner.

No matter what the outcome, police are always negatively viewed in their decisions and heavily criticized, till the day they are needed. Then they are everyone's best friend. Put yourself in their shoes.

Everyone seems to think this lawyer is gonna face a penalty.

He didn't get "burned,"I in fact I'm pretty sure he's going to be found completely within his rights and probably end up filing against the police or the city.

Did he go about it completely the "right" way? Maybe not. But he is protected by state law and shouldn't get arrested because he let his firearm show in public. I see civilian dressed cops waddling around with fullsize glocks in kydex through the grocery store, no one calls the swat in on them.
