the best is a 1500 dollar warn winch IMO..

we are talkin entry level product...

"you get what you pay for" i think is a fair way to look at it, as pete said

the entry level warn, is designed by warn, but most of the parts are made in china, then assembled in the us, theres a warn vendor on jeepforum that just told me about it.

if i find a warn for under 450 shipped i will get it, else im getting the smitty or the lp8500,

thank you all for your opinions on this topic!

Warn's got great products no doubt but I would go with a superwinch(located in eastern CT) and throw some syn line on it.

Synthetic is great. Lighter, stronger, safer and no anoyong kinks or bits of metal sticking out that stab and poke you like wire cable.

I originally wanted synthetic, but went with cable becaude of the area i live and what my jeep goes through. My jeep sees a good amount of mud/water/quick sand poop in NJ pine barrens. The grit will all get trapped in the line, causeing it to rip over time. Also the salt from winter salt trucks has a negative effect on the line (unless you want to clean every foot of line everytime it gets dirty). UV rays have a negative effect on the rope. ive also heard mold can develope in the line.

I think wire is cheaper and it will last longer on the east coast in my opinion.. but if your winch will say relativly dry and clean, go synthetic.
