What woke me up at 4am.

Bellingham Fire (right next to the district that I volunteer in) had this fire around 4 or 5 in the morning. We had just come back from another call and heard the dispatch for them and waited about ten minutes till the Bellingham Chief struck a 2nd alarm. Our house was dispatched around 5am headed down there, swapped out for the Bellingham guys that were first in and sat on hose lines lobbing water into the boat houses and on the boats that kept floating towards us. The wind was pushing the flames, loose boats, oil slicks, smoke, and our water right back into our faces.

Two people called 911 from inside the boathouse that was on fire first, they were trapped, and we never heard that they were rescued. No clue on how it actually started, but when we left they were calling in the crews that were working today to come do the mop up.

There are more pictures and videos online, the coast guard was overhead and so were a couple of news choppers once it was light outside. Whats interesting is that is the 2nd boat fire I have been to at that Marina this month, any thoughts I had on owning a boat are now gone.

Search Nicos Polymers Group. The plant burned down and it took 50 fire companies to put it out from 5 counties. I live 50 miles away and could see the smoke.

Ours wasn't that extreme, but only being able to get to the fire from 2 sides with the wind blowing it towards us made it interesting.

I am in the black gear in this picture, 2nd in line behind the nozzle. I was where the tan gear guys were about 5 minutes before this picture was taken sitting on a nozzle for somewhere between 30min and an hour just lobbing water onto the boat houses.

At least you`re not fighting a fire on them. If we catch on fire we can`t just lob water into them because of the whole sinking thing. Although we do have a lot of fixed systems like Co2 and high density water fogs.

Must have sucked to be down wind of them though. They put you guys on the bottle for that?

We were on air the whole time, it took lots of breathing control to make sure we had the most time out there playing before another crew took over for us.
