  • Stealing this from Will: Profound thought of the day...

the two jobs i have had so far in my life have been waitressing & working for a company where we give things away to people.

i know Will agrees with me on this, and i'm sure a bunch of you do too. why is it that people just think that by complaining and making a scene/fuss, they will get things for free? i understand things from a PR perspective (considering i went to school for it ) but what kind of image are you giving if you are just going to award people for misbehaving? does a mom give her kid a cookie because he threw a temper tantrum?

i used to have people complain about how their food was bad (even though they basically ate the entire plate) and demanded they got it for free....complaints about almost everything & anything that i would never imagine doing. it's just embarrassing.

now, i have people who sit at home all day, who don't have a job, but they enter sweepstakes and other giveaways throughout the day, and somehow feel ENTITLED that they should win a prize. i'm sorry if any of you on this forum do this (although i find it hard to believe), but seriously. who do you think you are? i had one the toughest days of work yesterday because of people like this who make their fake threats and demands...telling us they will sue, 'expose us' and whatnot because we didn't give them a new TV. get over it. get a job, make your own money, and buy the damn TV on your own.

sorry, just a rant, but i'm really fed up with these type of people

I agree with you on that one, I don't go places with my dad anymore because he IS one of those people...if something doesn't work out in his favor or the way he would like it to, he has no shame and will throw a fit in front of everyone. usually embarrassing the person he was speaking to and involving the manager etc. in fact one time it pissed me off so much that i actually just walked away and took a cab home....its was unbearable. he called me later on and asked where i went i simply said "that was the biggest dick move i have ever seen" and hung up. I haven't gone anywhere with him store wise since Its just so stupid why do certain people feel this way, like i dunno the world owes them something....if there's one thing i learned on my own its that if you want something YOU are the only one that can get it...no one gives you anything.

I think the key thought here is at what point did this practice start. Most people do it now just because they can. There has to be a First Complainer out there, who, in turn, had a First Enabler.

      Quite the philosophical conundrum.

I've seen a person bring in a cooked, half eaten steak, say their husband thought the steak was bad and get all of their money back.

Also seen a woman come in and say she bought a cantaloupe from us and it was rotten inside, she had neither the melon nor a receipt, she left the store paying nothing and getting a fresh melon....

The ridiculousness of a no hassle return policy.

Doesn't happen often, but some of our customer's complaing endlessly about how we price jobs and they piss and moan and complain and the problem is my boss caves so the same people continue to do it. People find a way to ruin everything.

Having worked with people in Lower Fairfield County i can tell you many stories of outrageous irate customers. Things like being mad they cannot return their phones w/o anything at all and not understanding why there is a restocking fee or why you cannot return a screen protector that has already been used

I actually pulled my wallet out once and told a customer i would personally buy him a $20 car charger because i couldn't exchange it without the receipt after he ranted and raved about how much money he spent with us. He walked away slight embarrassed.

Welcome to my job, Nicole. It is now ten fold being a manager. People only hear what they want to hear and get mad when things dont work out in their favor because they werent paying attention. I have popele call me every day and say "Hi my name is John. I rent with you guys all the time what kind of discounts and deals can you give me?" Or those that take coverage and blatently sign the contract then come back and say "I didnt want that i'm not paying for it."

My favorite is the one when a customer returns a car to one of our body shops or overnight damaged. We call them and they go "well it wasnt there when I dropped it off, im not paying for it." Ok dude, so that means any time someone damages a car they can just return it overnight and not pay for it? yea, go fuck yourself.

its all usually out of the fear of being sued or loseing customers.

but the ones who completly cross the lines get theirs.. the things my old boss did to customers food

My job as well in the auto industry. Although, I have to deal with the "Every since you did...my... has been making noise." Or the people who honestly think we sabotage their vehicles. It is bad. People are absolutely fucking nuts is what it comes down to and everyone thinks they are entitiled to everything. Gotta love it.

I guess this is one of the perks not working with the public and working with people who barely speak English (in port, mostly okay on the ship).

However the people in Africa fucking piss me off. They always come on the ship asking for ANYTHING. From expired, half empty coffee creamer to the shoes on you feet they will ask for anything. My favorite is when they come up to you and go "cigarette?" and you respond with "No sorry I dont smoke". The look on their face is priceless
