get whatever bike you like aesthetically and is COMFORTABLE. if you dont your not going to want to ride it. i have a triumph speed triple and i love it, 1050cc's and its good for all day riding. i had a gixxer 600, i know 2 people who snapped frames on the year i had, supper poris metal and bad welds. so i sold it. my $0.02"when I'm riding my motorcycle,I'm glad to be alive...when I stop riding my motorcycle,I'm glad to be alive"

I love my gixxer 600. Lots of power, but not too much. A gsxr 1k is stupid fast and powerful stock. A couple of my friends had 1k's and they're sprocketed, power comander, full exhaust the whole ordeal. Only one of them really rides it.
600's are twitchy, the reason people say not to get them for a first bike is cause it's a twitchy bike with the throttle, alot of people swap r1 or r6 clip ons on them I think.
All depends on what you're doing with it. I LOVE mine in the corners, you could tell if you look at my back tire. No chicken strips at all back there.
