There is a guy that does the same thing for Christmas. A computer actuates the light by trigger of sound in an audio track. There is also timed triggers and manual triggers that can be setup. It is kinda like mixing an audio track. But with lights instead of sound.

Very cool and expensive. More then anything...Time consuming.
