i consider the first vehicle an xj because it still retains the entire unibody structure front to rear, the entire firewall and dash, trunk area, except for 2 pillars and a portion of roof. sounds like a 4.0 as well.

really IMO the least XJ thing about it is the air shocks, the rest is just a modded out cherokee
