Lots of buzz about this ad lately I have been reading about.

Why is it ok for ad campaigns to blatantly and overtly target men, however the second its actually literally said that its targeting men only, it isnt ok and its "offensive" and "sexist".

The commercial in question:

You bring up a good point Wilhelm, and that is that sexism is considered prejudice when it calls into focus the negative stereotypes of either sex, but when marketing portrays only the culturally accepted hereto-machismo that so many men have bought into and so many women are willing to concede, you have the synthesis of greater sexual distancing.

The irony of the commercial is that they are selling you a diet soda (which is made out to be for women) by displaying male archetypes of pop culture. Then they tell women that diet soda is manly (which is a breaking of cultural stigma) but then insult women and thusly putting us right back at the point of being douchers

If that's offensive then I'm cindy lauper. As dillion said, diet soda is typically for women and fat fucks that want to feel better about eating a big mac. So they are trying to spread the market of diet soda out to men a bit more. Unfortunatkey this worls today is so sensitive, everone gets their panties in a wad when something like this comes up.

you know, i'm usually not sexist, and most things don't bother me. in fact, i think this commercial is really funny and all it is doing is trying to show the 'manly' side to diet soda. anyone who is offended by it is really over-thinking what the point was of the advertisement. i don't mind the go back to the kitchen jokes, and in fact, i would love it if i could be a stay at home wife/mom one day because i would rather clean and cook then be a part of corporate america.
