I get checked out more in my wifes minivan than in my Dually, Jeep or BMW!

The ladies like a man that can commit and is willing to ride around in a responsible "selfless" vehicle.

In a ll seriousness peeps listen up...

I traded a rusty '92 Briarwood XJ with a 6.5' plow for an '87 325e with 45K miles on her. There was 3 cars in the driveway without plates and by the 3rd time I visited the house I got the wife and the car was on my trailer that night(non-running).

If I short shift it I get 35-37 mpg on 87 fuel!

I then bought another '87 325i which is a lot faster and more like a track rat but it has the m20 motor, 5 speed, lsd 3.73 geared rear.

If I combine the e motor and the i head, intake, exhaust and ECU its a 4 door sleeper with naturally aspirated 220 rwhp. Put a lil turbo on her between 10-15 psi and its a 350 hp minimum in a 2700 lb car and insure it as a classic for $100/year.

BTW, I know I'm demographically ancient to most of ya'll but this is also one hell of a COUGAR MAGNET!!!

I'm selling both cars if anyone is interested...holla back yo!

I know, I have lived that nightmare. I can give you a list of things that are broken on that car right now without even seeing it.

I don't know about that, my e30 is the cheapest most dependable car I have ever owned. Bought it for $1500 with 173k. Its at about 225k now things I had to replace are a steering rack seal (just got a used rack for $50) alternator and the head gasket. Headgasket blew because in 1989 there was a tsb on the head bolts failing to hold torque. They lasted until 2010 with 195k miles.

Other than that I put coilovers on it and put all urethane suspension bushings and motor/trans mounts. There was nothing really wrong with anything changed, only did it for performance. Everything that I have had to buy for this car has been crazy cheap. Also my neon, jeep, or Subaru never were as easy to work on as my BMW.

i am more than sure that applies to newer BMWs versus our era jeeps, right?

i am just having a hard time beliving a mid 90s+ BMW is easier to work on than a Jeep Cherokee from the same span..if thats actually the sweeping point youre trying to make, based on whats actually being discussed

E36's aren't really bad working on either, but even the newer models are not bad when compared to newer toyotas, mitsubishi's, and hondas. They really actually design the car to be put drive AND maintained. In my experience japanese cars aside from Subaru, really have no thought put into how they are going to maintain the car once it rolls off the assembly line.

Also try removing a suspension bolt of any sort from a jap or American car that has seen 20+ norteast winters. I have yet to break a single bolt on my BMW. I had to use a die grinder and sawzall to do any suspension work on my xj. Even on newer subarus that I have been working on lately have been pretty rough when it came to working on suspensions.

So my point is, contrary to popular idiot america belief when it come to BMW you do for the most part get what you pay for. But, if you go and buy an M3 with 150k miles from a 18 year old kid that got it as his first car and put 70k miles on it you may be prone to some "issues". But I can guarantee you if you were to do the same with any American, jap, etc car it will be the same or worse.

Also, I drive 25-30k a year spread out on all my vehicles, but for racking up the miles the BMW is my car of choice.

You xj had a very sheltered childhood, also after building the xj for like 15 years they did finally fix all the bs that sucked/was poorly engineered. Then they stopped making them . But, I am by no means downing the jeep it's still a solid vehicle, it's just BMW really builds a quality automobile. I just can't stand it when everyone had a "friend" that had a horrible experience with one.
