This is something I have never been able to get and I never see it discussed.

Normally you have:

Entertainers that are hot, and talented.

Entertainers that are hot, but untalented, and have the gig because theyre smokin.

Entertainers that are not hot, but super talented, thus allowing them the gig.

Then there is Kesha. Untalented, un hot. Why does she have the gig she does? Her talent/singing voice is about on par with the typical drunk ass college girl at a bar, and her looks are way below par for the entertainment industry shes in.

What is the catch here?

Her ambition to become a teenie-bopper idol with no shame probably got the attention of the record labels. They figured that here was someone who wanted to be a white trash 14 year old girl's wet dream and willing to do it, so they let her.

Your logic would work if the mainstream music crowd was based on actual logic.

She acts like a total whore, and her voice is autotuned to the point where she sounds like most other no-talent artists. Falls right into place for the young Americans of today.

The auto tuning is what kills meee! ANYONE could be an artist today. Her appeal seems to lie in her need to be outrageous and (literally) wear garbage.

Burn Notice is using her song Blow in their commercials. Lyrically, a solid/fitting choice. Logically, not so much.

Yeah, Brittany Spears was hot ONCE. Then she got all coked up. Kesha was never hot, showed up coked up and here we are, wondering how she made it big.

But you're right, there are millions of people out there that deserve a spotlight because of their voice and talents, but then we have an industry of pop culture driven by the white trash whores with no shame and pride and will sing autotuned songs for a few lines of Blow.
