  • What I do when Im not wheeling

This was from a couple weeks ago at the private powerlifting gym I train at. This is out Sunday Max effort bench day. Worked up to a 50lb. personal record of 550. And because I know someone is giong to ask, we use the boards to train over 100%. and to build strenght in different areas of our press.

I do a lot of work to be able to arch my back. the higher I am the lower the bar has to go. keeps you nice and tight too so your using your whole body. The bench (at least in the competative version) is definitely a whole body lift

lifting is my other passion besides jeeps (sounds very strange coming from a five foot tall girl)...i have serious respect for powerlifters though!
you don't go to metal health do you?

I do actually. That is where I train by myself. Well sometimes with Rob. Then we bench at the Refuge in Middletown on sundays. and anyone interested in lifting is more than welcome to come and check it out on sunday. We have a bunch of record holders and I think we have like 6-7 lifters that are top 50 overall ranked (by powerlifting usa) in the country for their class.

the refuge looks like a good place, i've only been into lifting heavy for around a year though..and i've made awesome gains..but i don't think i'm ready for powerlifting yet! haha

NICE, not really into any strongman my self but have some friends who are.
There is nothing to say how strong you have to be to train with us and I find most people who come down get bit by the iron bug and end up wanting to compete. I did. I started there benching 190. I did my first competition and banched 335 at 240lbs lol. now Im hoping to hit 530ish in may.

i'm sure i'd end up wanting to compete too. i'm always up for a good challenge.
are there usually only a few girls there?

I love lifting weights. I wanted to get back into it then I got my finger cut off so I'm out of commission for a little bit. But I was gonna rejoin metal health. Especially considering I can see it from my bedroom window. I live on valley street. You gotta introduce me to your elite group so I have someone to lift with once I'm all healed up!
