Need some [research] sites...(land use related)

Hey,
I've gotta give a speech on something controversial and I thought of my fine friends at SiS. I think I'm going to go with a speech on land use. How we're lacking it, how we shouldn't be.. yadda yadda...
I'm sure many of you have had to do the speech class, so you know the idea...

At any rate, I am just asking for help in finding links for websites you know of or factual blogs giving hard facts and statistics. I'll also be doing research, obviously... but I haven't had much luck thus far...

I'll ask mi madre, she's on the town zoning board and hears about land use stuff a lot. There was actually something regarding offroad vehicles recently, maybe I can get some information on that for you.

That's a major issue in my town, as there are many hiking/horse/bicycle trails, but nothing that's legal to use with a vehicle (be it ATV, dirtbike, or Jeep).

yeah, it's nonsense.
I've gotta give the speech tomorrow, so I'm researching now.. It's harder than I thought, but I'd rather talk about something that I can sort of relate to, versus your typical abortion, gay rights, death penalty paper.

How about this:

The main argument is that four wheel drive vehicles destroy the water when fluids get into it, and that they mess with the flow of surface runoff. Why is this any worse than horse manure getting into the water system, or a trail torn up by horses going through?

As to the issue of usage control, my town has a permit system to allow riders onto the horse trails, and it's more of a matter of policing your own than anything else. It's on an honor system, and using the trails comes with the knowledge that anything done out-of-line will result in the loss of your permit.

I did a speech on land use too. I only got 5 min to speak tho. I talked a lot of The Blue Ribbon Coalition. Look it up if you havent heard of them

After searching for quite awhile, I remembered pirate had a whole section on it. I did a little searching through their links and was able to find enough to write the speech. I need a quote and i'll be done with it.
It's just about 3 minutes, which is kind of too short, but the teacher really doesn't care as she doesn't want to make us uncomfortable with a stop watch. xD
