for survival, i would buy a ka-bar no questions asked

theres a reason they are used by who theyre used by.

phil has one also, he will chime in, but its a nice as hell knife that doesnt take any shit. its a little large but unless youre really hurting for space/concealment for some reason in a camping/survival situation, its a no brainer fro me

get the one with the serrated portion on it

Big Ka-Bar, I have the leather handled full size one and it goes with me every time I go hiking/camping etc... Best 65 bucks I have EVER spent. And I have ALOT of knives and that one gets the most use besides my daily carry one. I wouldnt get the 5" inch one though, I think the bigger one is actually more useful, it gets use as a makeshift hatchet alot, the little one is too light to do that.

I have the Ka-bar companion too and that one is a bit beefier and has a super thick blade but I dont like the feel as much. Still a very solid knife though, I wouldn't be disappointed if that's what I got.

As far as serrated, I'm not a fan of serrated knives, they are a pain to sharpen and the smooth blade knife will cut anything the serrated will, either way I guess it personal preference.

KaBar without a doubt. I carry the USMC Bayonet KarBar around in my jeep for all wheeling and camping trips.

One can be had for about $60. I'd say that's one hell of a deal and like Will said, it doesn't take any shit.
