I feel bad for all of the people that had to watch that.... as well as the driver having to live with the fact that he killed all of those people from an accident.

I will say this though and I know it may seem a little out there but hear my out. I'll make a comparison to the firearm industry because, obviously, that is the industry that I work in.
Whenever a shooting occurs like Columbine or any other maniac decides to gun a bunch of people down, it makes top story in the news and the media blatantly glorifies it. Why? They need to sell their newspaper. When you see the media making up facts and using illogical arguments against everything we like to do, it isn't only their ignorance that takes hold of their feeble minds, but they realize that they cannot print a factual story because it simply won't sell.
Whenever a shooting occurs, there is a massive outcry to bad firearms and every news paper and media outlet asks why the general public has such unabated access to 'deadly assault weapons'. Once again they skew facts, make up terms like the Gun Show Loophole', which holds absolutely no water, and pour other slander into their articles so the general uneducated public becomes frightened and scared into submission. Hence the reason why in the article posted before there were short statements about other past accidents.
While this is a terrible occurrence, the general public will forget about this next week. Within our own community we will never forget because we need to prevent and educate the spectators of the dangers involved with standing next to a two ton trophy truck barreling through the desert.
Any outrage is normal, as I am quite outraged at the media more than I am at the actual tragedy because the media will do anything they can to sell a story. The shock factor is high and they want it to be that way. If they could sell a million news papers with the main headline being '8 DIE IN OFFROAD RACE: WHO TO BLAME?' the absolutely will.
Who is to blame here? What does it matter? In the end it doesn't matter. A narrow minded person will look at this and say we should ban this style of racing and get on their soap box about it, but only the extreme activists will pursue it while the interest of the public will meander away into oblivion. In a month, this event will be forgotten by the media as a whole as the next big thing will come around for them to slander and lie about to make money.sigpic

sorry. just my PR side coming through
when a tragedy occurs, it allows for and creates a spotlight on a grand stage to showcase safety precautions already in place and those in the works, to an outside community that otherwise just assumes things that are on average incorrect. It can be turned into a great tool for spreading knowledge and good information.
As we speak, the MDR disaster is shaping KOH 2011's gameplan for new safety precautions, without limiting the event.
