it's really sad to see something like this happen...but unfortunately what you're all saying is right...the media is going to blow it (and has already done so)...adding another reason why "off roaders are bad" and why what we do isn't safe...but the truth of the matter is is that if you are spectating you should go into an event/race/competition knowing you are going to be around rigs that are much bigger, faster, and stronger than you...and if you are willing to stand that close then that is a chance you are willing to take...seeing clips from baja with people just standing in front of the rigs going 70 mph and running away at the last second...it just baffles me that people are that crazy and have the guts to do that...

Sweet, so 4 deadly accidents in offroad racing since 2007. People die every day on regular roads throughout the country each day. I guess we should just ban driving now.

Easy fix - make sure people are back farther form the track or put up warnings (which I'm sure they had) Those people know the consequences of being close. Just shitty circumstances. I feel bad for them, but as Phil says "play stupid games and win stupid prizes."

bet you cant name the last time a spectator died at one of the Major Nascar series races...

oh wait, you cant. because its never happened. People have been hurt, a 10+ foot high fence cant stop parts from flying into the air, people have been injured, but never killed @ a nascar race.

NHRA on the other hand had someone get killed by a stray tire last year.

if anyone is interested, fast-aid has put together a donation to raise money for the families of those who were killed & injured during the race.

here's some more information on it:

              and here's the donation site:

I saw on the news the driver had to run away because other spectators started throwing rocks at him.

Saw this on the news last night.
I figure it would be good to repost, remind everyone to be safe when at these types of races.

yes, it does. but this is also an opportunity for us to show those outside of the community what we're all about. i know my dad called me this morning in a panic when he heard about this, because he knows i attend events like this, and let's face it...when we're filming we certainly aren't standing a fair distance away from the racers/competitors. it's a risk you take, but some people just push it a little bit too far. when something like this happens we have the chance to explain our 'world' and the circumstances. if we all walk around complaining and saying this sucks instead of pulling together and making this a better situation by donating, extending a helping hand, or just showing the better side of the off roading community, it's going to be viewed in a negative light.

sorry. just my PR side coming through
