  • Hey compunerds! I need a little help

I'm certainly not computer clueless, but I need some help in this day and age with the new stuff. (get off my lawn ya damn kids!)

I need a new computer to keep up with my growing workflow.

Video editing station basically. I imagine I need RAM, RAM, and potentially more RAM on top of that...with a spritz of RAM. I guess that means I should (have to) go 64bit as well. Do 64 bit operating systems still have a slew of compatibility and other such downsides? I would assume no, but I ask anyway! (Windows 7 for example being the obvious upgrade...i run XP right now.)

And most importantly for me due to just lack of current knowledge: Processor/motherboard. Whatre we talkin here? I just landed a HUGE job and will need to be able to edit a large project...my comp now just isnt up to the task.

I have been looking at this combo (and am equally clueless as to how powerful of a power supply i should get): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.456546

Its either this or an iMac with Final Cut Pro 7...but the jury is out on that still.

Will, check out some of the ASUS comps. They come with damn good processors and vid-cards, you might not need to upgrade. My laptop's damn close to a year and a half old now, and it's had no problems whatsoever an runs fast as fuck.

My roommate has an imac for his photography and it seems to work really well, he can get some sweet shots and distort them if need be, make video slides and stuff. I'm sure you could edit movies and things like that on it too

the thing about macs is you are paying for the label. if you are computer literate enough, you can build yourself an INSANE computer for quite cheap. 400w power supply should be enough. if you start from the shell up, the possibilities are pretty much endless for how much ram you can fit into that sucker.
