  • Puff'n Stuff Geyser.

Mystic Spring, which didn't look like much & then a colorful unnamed hot spring.

    • Echinus Geyser can erupt every hour or not for months at a time.
It was smoking when we were there, which made getting a decent picture difficult.

      • Steamboat Geyser can erupt every 4 days or not for 50 years.
It is the world's tallest active geyser. Spraying water over 300 feet up.

The 2.75 mile "hike" around the Norris Geyser Basin took 2 hours.
The boardwalks / trail varied in elevation from 7,500 feet to 7,600 feet. A net elevation gain of only 100 feet.
I was very surprised how big and cool Norris Geyser Basin is. I only put a sampling of the Norris Geyser Basin thermal features into this write up.

          • I left from Canyon Village, WY on September 24th with the goal of hiking Cygnet Lakes trail.

40 days ago there was a grizzly bear / human encounter on Cygnet Lakes trail.... see link
            http://www.nps.gov/yell/parknews/13065.htm

The trailhead is around 6 miles west of Canyon Village.
The trailhead is around 8,225 feet in elevation.

            Left at 1145am.

            1.5 miles into the hike.

                    • 7.25 miles into the hike. Near the meadow to the east.

8.5 miles into the hike & back into the woods.

The 9.25 mile hike took 3 hours & 45 minutes. Started at 1145am and finished at 330pm.
The trail varied in elevation from 8,225 feet to 8,425 feet. A net elevation gain of only 200 feet.
We did not see any bison, bear, elk or anything bigger than squirrel on the hike, which is surprising.

The weather started off partly sunny & in the upper 40s, but by the end it was sprinkling, very windy & in the lower 40s.
If we had started the hike any later we would have gotten wet.
This was one of the most boring hikes I've done, which isn't a bad thing. Out & Back hikes tend to be more boring than loop hikes.

This hike put me over 200 miles hiked for the 2012 & 2013 summer seasons combined.
We did not see anyone else hiking.
