Gauges no work, says "no bus"

Ok..... Wtf happened? Batt unhooked for a while, messed with radio, all fuses good, finally able to drive the damn thing and this.... Ideas?

Check the iod circuit.
Check the buss behind the dash. Need more info on this to be able to help more.

The ECU isn't connecting to the gauge cluster, I've checked all the connections and fuses...... Any other ideas?

I had same problem...replaced the entire harness that attaches to battery....problem solved....was super corroded

Is it only the gauges? Interior lights? Do the other idiot lights come on? Ie check engine check gauges?

Try popping out the gauge cluster (Really easy). Douche the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Lube the connectors with di electric grease. Put it back in and see if it works.

I've had this problem on every 97+ XJ. fixes it every time

It's because 9"s don't like being driven on the street.

Like Andy and Luke said. Replace the cables and clean the contacts.

I did all that over the weekend minus the DI grease, I'll have to pick some up and give that a try too.

I can get a new dash for a 6 pack from a guy, should I pick that up just incase?

Trace your grounds. Don't swap clusters, your mileage will be off.
It's an easy fix.

Ya my buddy has replaced the entire wiring harness in his XJ, I'll have him give me a hand. The odo reading is stored in just the cluster?

Nah, it's really easy. Doesn't take more than an hour to have the old one out and a new one in.
